Solid quality, minor issue

I bought a DIY Guitar Kit, a Hollow Body. The overall experience was positive. The kit components were solid, definitely good value for the money. Everything was as described on the site, and the wood felt sturdy. Delivery took about a week, which was reasonable. My only complaint was one of the Guitar Knobs had a tiny scuff on it, barely noticeable, but still there. Customer service was polite when I called about it, offered a replacement, but I decided to just keep it. Happy with the purchase, just that little detail.

Good kit, slow shipping

I ordered a Stratocaster Style Kit and some Rosewood Necks. The website was easy enough to navigate, and the ordering process was straightforward. Everything arrived well-packaged, but it took a full 12 days to get to me, which felt a bit long for an in-stock item. The kit itself was decent quality, especially for the price. All the parts were there, and the instructions were clear enough for someone with a bit of DIY experience. I had a quick question about wiring, and customer support replied within a day with a helpful answer. The neck fits perfectly, and the wood quality is good. Just wish shipping was quicker.

Quick shipping, good parts

Got a set of Humbuckers and some Tuning Machines. Shipped fast, got here in 4 days. Parts seem good quality. Easy install. Would buy again.

Anyone ordered from Solo Music Gear before and had to return something? How was that process, like if I get a body and don't like the wood grain or something.

E Emma 1 month ago
I returned a fretboard once. It was pretty straightforward, just follow their instructions on the site. I think you gotta pay for return shipping though.

Yeah, returns were easy enough for me, too. Just don't wait too long, there's usually a time limit for returns.

Hey guys, thinking about grabbing one of their Tele kits. I'm in NYC, any idea how long shipping usually takes to the US?

M Marcus Kaur 2 months ago
I'm in California and it usually takes about a week, week and a half tops for me. Comes from Canada so it's not super slow or anything.

Yeah, I ordered some pickups last month to Florida and it was like 8 days total. Not too bad for international.

Been looking at their P Bass kits. How do they compare to the stuff from Precision Guitar Kits? Are they similar quality for a beginner build?

P Phil 2 months ago
Solo is decent, especially for the price. Precision might have slightly better wood options sometimes, but for a beginner, Solo's kits are totally fine and great value.

I've built both. Solo is definitely more beginner-friendly in terms of instructions and parts. Precision can be a bit more 'advanced' sometimes. Depends on what you're looking for, but for a first build, Solo is a solid choice.

Do the DIY guitar kits come with everything you need? Like, are the bodies pre-drilled for all the hardware and stuff or is it all raw?

E Elena 1 month ago
Most of them are pre-drilled for the basics, like the neck pocket and bridge. You might have to do some minor drilling for pickguards or specific hardware if it's not a standard config, but the hard stuff is usually done.

Yeah, definitely pre-drilled. Makes it way easier for a first-timer. You're not starting from scratch with a block of wood lol.

Quick question about the student discount. Can I combine that with a sale, like if a guitar kit is already marked down for a holiday?

D Dana Kaur 2 months ago
Nah, pretty sure you can only use one discount at a time. I tried to stack my newsletter coupon with a Black Friday deal once and it wouldn't let me.

Yeah, they're pretty strict about that. Coupons don't stack with other sales or clearance items. Gotta pick which one saves you more.
